Dry Fuel for Winter Fire Starting

Keeping warm in winter conditions requires making a fire.  Remember that American Beech trees hold their dead leaves through the winter and dry leaves make good fuel when getting a fire started.  Beech and sometimes Hornbeam are the trees with dry leaves still on the limbs when snow covers the ground. When building a fire in snowy conditions either kick away the snow to find ground or build the fire on a platform layer of heavy sticks or logs.  You can also build an upside down fire.
